Any good resources for how to design the die cut for a box. I'm just not getting it...folds, flaps, indents, etc. I'm working on some electronics packaging.

Thanks.

From your info, no., apart from get hold of an existing one, open it up, buy a ruler and get busy with the shizzy. Then phone the printer.

If it is an existing design or one supplied from a packaging company, you can probably get an Ai compatible file for the die from them. Otherwise, what Paul said.

If you want to get more specific, I can give you an example of something close.

Also have to know when you would need this by, since I'm very busy at work and am on vacation after Friday.

Thanks everyone. I've got prior die cuts that I'm working from. I'm looking at the "Book of Patterns." I ordered "Innovations and Ideas" from the Paperboard Packaging Council.

What's perplexing to me are folds. How do you measure the outside face of a box, versus the inside and how do you account for the width of the fold. It's kind of a mathematical hell for me. If I just had some guidelines. Also, these are Self-Locking Trays made with a very thin fluted board (corrugated).

I'm actually working on the inner packing to keep the materials in place. It just seems that certain faces need to be a bit shorter than others to accommodate for folds, like by a mm.

Any guidelines, formulas, rules of thumb would be appreciated.

I'd also be interested in any information. Do packaging designers
always start from scratch or are there standard box designs? Are there
standards in the way a printer expects to see a cutting guide for a box
and would I be expected to remove internal fold marks?
