Hi. Is there a shortcut to jump through multiple artboards in CS4?
I keep going for Option - Page Up/Down like in InDesign/Acrobat.

Thanks
Richard

Think I have found a work-a-round but you need to manually set up View/New View… for each artboard in each document and set shortcut keys for those views using Edit/Keyboard Shortcuts... Custom View 1, 2, 3 etc...

Option+Arrow key(s) will jump through artboards.

Judy, that only works if you are in the artboard tool mode. I think what Richard wants (at least what i want) is to be able to jump through artboards while ANY tool is selected.

Option+Arrow key(s) will jump through artboards.

Note that this shortcut only works when you have the Artboard tool selected, so the keyboard sequence would be:

Shift+O to enter Artboard mode.
Option+Arrow Key to cycle through artboards.
Esc key to exit Artboard mode.

Well yes and no!

Check it out a little further and that might be useful but not quite what is expected or wanted.

if you bring the currently selected artboard to the front or fit the window and you Shift O and then Option>arrow it does virtually nothing for you even though it toggles through the artboards. So you then have to hit escape to see the artboard you have currently selected a while filling the window.

Which is what the user wants to be able to which is toggle through the art boards instead of toggling the selection of artboards.

It is ok but nit the desired feature.

I see the problem.

Even using the navigation arrows in the status bar would present problems if the pages had been moved out of sequence. The navigation controls move to artboard number rather than position on canvas.

Position an artboard the way you want it. Go to View - New View, and save the view. Do the same for the other artboards. Assign each saved view a keyboard shortcut.

That was mentioned Gary but even that is not quite what the OP wants and something that we should have although the artboard within an artboard impedes that workflow.

It is a bit of a sticky problem.

I think I have a way this could work as a feature needs more thought. I will be back.

Hmm. I guess I missed the OP's own first response. Looks like that must be working for him, because he hasn't been back.

Anyway, there's a whole host of things the new artboards feature needs to make it work more productively. Feature requests are fine, and everyone who's interested should describe how they'd like to see something work. But feature requests have to wait until the next version release. Where an existing feature is not robust, lacks expected functionality, or requires two steps back to move one forward, the only thing you can do is try to find a workaround. Whatever gets you through the night is all right.

Well yes I think that the OP is not doing so many artboards in a document that this would be workable. But artboards are still new and hopefully developing but one thing we do know is that you cannot wait until the next release to make the feature request.

You have to make it now.

Or maybe even last month or or two.

Anyway work rounds are very good as they often lead to the new feature I agree with you that they are necessary.

from Judy Arndt:

"Note that this shortcut only works when you have the Artboard tool selected, so the keyboard sequence would be:

Shift+O to enter Artboard mode.
Option+Arrow Key to cycle through artboards.
Esc key to exit Artboard mode."

Actually, there's an additional key combo in the sequence right after Shift+O:

Command+Option+0 to show all the artboards to enable you to see which one you've selected before exiting artboard mode.

Pretty convoluted!

Now who can tell me how to renumber artboards after they've been created and moved so that top/left is always #1, next over is #2, etc?

No real way there is a work around but I forget it.

A workaround for renumbering artboards was posted here by JC Tremblay.
