HELP! Somehow, my swatch libraries are not showing up when I roll over them in the Window menu. The other 3 libraries appear, as normal, but just the swatch libraries does not. I tried the standard shut down AI, restarted the machine (which is a dual G4 877, 1GB RAM, and I'm running AI 10 on Panther), dumped the preferences, etc...still nothing. The only thing I've changed is going from using Extensis Suitcase to Apple's Font Book for font management.

Anyone have any good ideas?

Do a search about this topic and upgrade Suitcase to Suitcase X1, you have a corrupt font or font database. AdobeFnt05.lst most likely.

You may need to go back to your install disk and copy the libraries to your hard drive again. I am not sure if you would need to actually do a custom install for the libraries or you could drag and drop the Swatch Library folder to the correct folder for the Illustrator application.

Hi
I have the same problem... I have tried reinstalling Illustrator - but to no avail!!!
The swatches are all in the library - in the right place - Illustrator is just not seeing them... nothing is coming up in the menu bar for them - just an empty space... any further suggestions?

Vanessa did you read what I wrote it is a known problem you have a corrupt font.

The reason it happens is that the font database loads into AI just before the swatches so a corrupt font prevents then from loading. That is not a real in depth description of the problem and you don't have to accept it but you won't get your swatches back unless you find the font(s) or the database causing it.

Anyway I tried. Good luck.

Hmm...I know fonts can screw all kinds of unexpected thing up, and using Suitcase I had no problems, despite the fact that I did have MANY corrupt fonts in there. Like I said, I switched to Apples Font Book, and then I started having this problem. I just tried opening AI with both font programs closed, and it's still not working. Being that I have, um, like 800 fonts or so, any suggestions? I could just go back to Suitcase, but then I still have corrupt fonts.

thanks,
Scott

Can I delete the AdobeFnt05.lst font? Is that going to bring down more fire and brimstone upon me, or can I replace just that font from the install disk? I see it's in several different locations, but there's one in the AI folder. Can I Zap that one and copy another from somewhere else?

Yes you can delete all of them and fresh ones will be made. You don't have to copy anything.

Suitcase X1 is very good you might wish to upgrade.

I spent a good deal of yesterday morning trying several of the variations of these solutions, to no avail. One questions I had Wade was should I erase all of the AdobeFnt05.lst files, or just the ones tied to AI? I saw several different versions of them in several locations and only deleted the AI-related ones. I also took everything out of Apple's Font Book, and went back to using suitcase. This hasn't worked yet either, but I'm still trying to figure out why it's doing this. As a side note, it's also happening on my assistant's computer, so it's probably not just me out there.

You can trash all of them perhaps you have a corrupt font.

Did you also trash your preferences it is not good enough just to trash the AdobeFnt05.lst files there are also AdobeFnt06.lst files. But have to trash the preferences as well. Then try AI. The AdobeFnt05.lst files you are interested in are the ones that are more than 30 or so kb in size.

There could be other reason for this as well.

Wade, you're my new hero! I have my swatches back! Dumping the larger fonts and the pref's together worked, much thanks. Now I just need to get this whole Fontbook issue cleared up and I can get abck to life as I knew it!

Thanks so much,
Scott

You may still have a corrupt font. Helvetica Neue .dfont might be a good place to look.

Now I wrote my, like in maybe! So be careful not to through anything good away.
